My research and teaching are deeply rooted in exploring the intersections of education, social inequalities, and identity. This focus has consistently shaped the design and delivery of my courses across both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

At the undergraduate level, I have developed and taught courses that critically examine global and local educational landscapes, including  Introduction to Sociology, Contemporary Social Problems, Applied Sociological Research and Theory in Africa, Crime and DevianceClassical Sociological TheorySocial Stratification and Inequality, Contemporary Sociological Theory , and Research Methods .

At the postgraduate level, I have taught and designed courses such as Sociological Theory, Research Methods, Critical Theory,  Southern Theory, and the Honours Research Paper. Most recently, I have designed and implemented postgraduate courses focused on decolonial theory and research methodology, with an emphasis on scholarship emerging from the global South. These courses aim to equip students with critical tools to interrogate dominant epistemologies and to produce contextually relevant knowledge that reflects the lived realities of marginalised communities.

This academic foundation strongly informs my approach to multilingual and multicultural education. I am committed to fostering inclusive, critically engaged learning environments that validate and draw upon students’ diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. I integrate structured readings, interactive discussions, and digital learning tools to foster student engagement, intellectual curiosity, and critical reflection.

Learning and Teaching

My commitment to postgraduate student development is demonstrated by my track record of successful supervision. Since joining the University of the Western Cape in November 2021, I have supervised nine Honours research projects to completion. I am also proud to note that three of my Master’s students have graduated in April 2025. This progression reflects my sustained engagement in supporting students through the research process and fostering academic excellence at the postgraduate level.
